Halit started his flute education with Kamil Şekerkaran in 1978. He completed his BA degree with Japanese Flautist Sadako Yokayama Özistek in 1987. In the same year, he played as the first flautist in Akdeniz Youth Orchestra and participated in the European tour as the first flautist.

Accepted to London Royal Academy in 1990, Halit Turgay continued his education with a British Council scholarship as a student of renowned flautist William Bennett. He also attended master classes by Charles Dagnino, Peter Lloyd, Alan Lockwood and Keith Bragg.

He continued pursuing his studies in Turkey, earning his MA(Music) degree in 1993, and a PhD in Music Performance in 2002 at İstanbul State Conservatory. 

 In 1990, he performed at the International Youth Festival in Aberdeen, Scotland and won the 'Skene Award’ and first prize at the competition held within the festival. He has also won prizes at Turkish national music competitions.

Currently, he is teaching flute and chamber music at Istanbul University State Conservatory.
